Reflections of a Beautiful Morning

“…and may the Lord cause you to increase and abound in love for one another…”

1 Thess 3:12 (NASB)

One of the things I do frequently is to search out poems and literature that express thoughts I have about my wife.  I frequently have the opportunity to lie in bed and look upon my tired little princess and watch her sleep away all the stresses and pressures of the day.  Often, I will quietly but verbally voice my love and admiration for her and thank God for bringing her into my life.

Men, I firmly believe that relationships often go sour because we men allow them do cool to the point of lukewarmness.  Nothing is less tasteful than a glass of nice lukewarm water after I have worked out and am hot and thirsty.  Men, we need to cherish our wives and be thankful every day for them and to find ways to express this to them.

I hear of couples ending up in divorce court after decades of marriage.  One friend I have is going through this after 37 years of marriage, and another person I spoke with this week is going through a divorce after 27 years.  I cannot think of anything sadder than such an experience.  My goal and request of God is that my wife and I live and grow old together, and experience the companionship and oneness that a One Flesh covenant relationship has to offer.  Couples need to learn to cherish one another; marriages are hard work, and often we allow the pressures and stresses of life to drain us of the energy, passion and excitement we all dreamed of in our relationships when we were younger.  We need to constantly strive for making our mate our very breath; we need to meditate on our love and passion for them and make them understand that they are our primary focus in life.

I like this poem, and gave it to my wife in a txt message and facebook post because it so very well mirrors things I think and do to her when she sleeps…she often has no idea:

The sun rises above the hillcrest,
As does the joy of my heart;
Rays of warmth and love,
From her I will never depart.

Fresh dew upon the grass,
Young birds chirp in their nests;
I watch her gently sleep,
My love to her I silently profess.

I enjoy the stillness and calm,
Watching as she smiles and dreams;
She brings me to stillness and peace,
Like that of a slow flowing stream.

My heart and soul flow with love,
And I smile as I quietly reflect;
I’ve been handed a sweet princess,
A sweet princess to love and to protect.

A vow to myself I make,
As she quietly sleeps away;
To love and always cherish her,
Until my last breath… until my last day.
